Category: Tools, Hardware & Kitchen Implements
These tools and kitchen implements are chosen to show my ability to perform different types of joinery that require an advanced understanding of different forging techniques as well as different filing techniques and use of complicated joinery. The measuring and dynamic tools (ex: “Double Calipers”, “Three Leaf Dividers”, “Winged Compass”, and “Box-Joint Pliers”) show my ability to forge and file pieces accurately to allow for smooth and accurate movement in the joints as well as my ability to execute very tight traditional joinery. The pieces “Socket Chisels”, “Belt Axe Head”, “Rivet Hammer”, and “Nail Headers” show my ability to work accurately with tools steel as well as forge welding different carbon content steel and wrought iron together into one piece. The remaining pieces were chosen to show my ability to file accurately to create flat surfaces (ex:”Tasting Spoon”), rounded or crowned surfaces (ex: “Spatula”, “Suffolk Thumb Latch”, “Spatulas and Spoons”, and “Tasting Spoon”), create mouldings/decorative filing marks (ex: “Orderve Knife”, “Suffolk Thumb Latch”), as well as forging and filing very unordinary and specific shapes (ex: “Stag-Head Hinges, “18th Century American Shutter Dog”). Hardware was picked to be displayed in this portfolio to show my ability to make a nearly perfect matching pair of a specific motif or shape (ex: “Shutter Dogs”, “Strap-Hinges”, “Stag-Head Hinges”)
Each one of these pieces was forged and filed completely traditionally without the use of any modern machinery or tooling
